VE Day Preparations in Full Swing with Help from Burtonwood Sewing Group

Today we welcomed some special guests into school—volunteers from the Burtonwood Sewing Group.  These talented ladies kindly gave up their time to work with children across all year groups as we began creating our very own handmade bunting in preparation for our VE Day Celebrations next Thursday.

The day began with children designing their bunting on plain paper, carefully thinking about colours, symbols, and designs. They then moved on to fabric, where they used paint and stencils to print 'VE Day' onto their bunting pieces. Once dry, each piece will be decorated further using the children’s original designs, bringing their creative ideas to life on fabric.

Our older pupils will take on the important job of sewing the individual bunting triangles together, ready to proudly display around school for our VE Day event.

This hands-on project has been a fantastic way for the children to connect with an important moment in history while developing their design skills.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the volunteers from the Burtonwood Sewing Group for sharing their time, skills, and enthusiasm. The children thoroughly enjoyed working with you—and we can’t wait to see the finished bunting.
