Year 5 Pupils Explore Plant Biology Through Hands-On Flower Dissection

In a fascinating dive into plant biology, Year 5 pupils engaged in a hands-on learning experience by dissecting three different types of flowers. This activity aimed to deepen their understanding of plant reproduction by identifying and comparing the reproductive parts of various flowers.

Pupils examined each flower, focusing on identifying key structures such as the anther, filament, petal, and pistil. Through careful observation, they noted both the similarities and differences between the flowers' reproductive systems, gaining insights into the diverse ways plants reproduce and function.

This practical session was more than just a science lesson; it was also an opportunity for students to hone their collaboration skills. Utilising the HPL framework, particularly the use of collaboration, pupils worked closely with their partners to complete the dissection and analysis and they enjoyed both the theoretical learning and the practical application.

Well done Year 5!
