Year 5 RE - Day of the Dead
Collaboration and Creativity in Day of the Dead Artwork
Pupils in Year 5 have been using their collaboration and creativity HPL skills in RE to produce stunning Calavera (sugar skull) artwork as part of their learning about the Mexican festival Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
During the lesson, pupils explored the traditions of this vibrant celebration, learning how families in Mexico decorate with colourful papel picado (paper flags), place photos of loved ones on an ofrenda (altar), and celebrate with music and marigold flowers to honour those who have passed.
Working together, the pupils used their artistic talents to design bright and intricate Calavera pictures, showcasing their understanding of the cultural significance of this special day. Year 5 got a real sense of appreciation for different traditions around the world.
Fantastic work Year 5!
