Reception Class and the Magic of Metamorphosis

Reception Class and the Magic of Metamorphosis
Last half term, Reception explored the life cycle of butterflies. As part of their topic on growth and change in the natural world, the children were given the opportunity to observe real caterpillars up close in their very own classroom.
Over the weeks, the pupils carefully monitored the caterpillars’ transformation, watching in fascination as they grew, spun themselves into cocoons, and began the next stage of their development.
When the children returned to school on Monday after the half-term break, they were excited to discover that their cocoons had opened and beautiful butterflies had emerged. After taking time to observe the butterflies, the class released them into the school garden to thrive in their natural environment.
The experience brought their learning to life in a memorable way and was a wonderful way to nurture respect for living things and the environment.
