Altru Workshop - Just Breathe
Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in a theatre performance and workshop delivered by Altru Drama. The performance, titled Just Breathe, tackled the important topics of drugs and alcohol awareness, including substances such as vaping, cannabis, and ketamine.
The 45-minute performance followed the lives of three young people—Dylan, Lexi, and Bella—each of whom faces challenges that lead them to make difficult decisions involving drugs and alcohol. Through powerful storytelling, the show explored why some young people may turn to substances, whether due to peer pressure, stress, or curiosity, and highlighted the real-life consequences of those choices.
The performance was followed by an engaging workshop, giving pupils the chance to reflect on the characters' decisions and explore alternative outcomes. Through discussion and drama-based activities, pupils considered the impact of peer influence, the importance of informed decision-making, and how to seek help when needed.
The session supported the development of key High Performance Learning (HPL) values—especially Confidence and Empathy—as pupils shared thoughts, asked questions, and deepened their understanding in a safe and creative environment.
Just Breathe provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to learn about a sensitive subject in an age-appropriate way. It gave them the knowledge and tools to make positive, healthy, and informed choices as they grow older.
Thank you to Altru Drama for delivering such a valuable experience, and we look forward to welcoming them back in the future.
