Year 1 Phonics Workshop

Parents and carers of Year 1 pupils were welcomed into school for an engaging phonics workshop designed to strengthen home-school collaboration in early reading. The event provided a valuable opportunity for families to gain insight into how phonics is taught in Year 1 and how they can support their child’s reading at home.

During the workshop, parents observed a phonics lesson delivered by the class teacher, giving them the chance to see first-hand the techniques and strategies used to develop reading skills, including sound recognition, blending, and segmenting. It was also explained how phonics underpins children’s reading fluency and confidence.

Parents were able to see how the children respond to their daily phonics sessions and took away ideas and strategies to continue supporting learning at home.

Thank you to those who attended and for your continued support in helping our Year 1 children become confident, enthusiastic readers.
