Year 2 Science - Bug Hunt Adventure
Year 2 recently had an exciting outdoor adventure in Buddy Wood and Willow Wood. Armed with magnifying glasses and bug pots, the children explored every nook and cranny of the wooded area to discover the fascinating creatures that call it home.
As they carefully turned over logs and looked under leaves they discovered worms, twisting and turning through the damp soil. There were woodlice, slimy slugs and even a few spiders.
The children learned how each bug plays an important role in the woodland ecosystem. They discussed why worms help keep the soil healthy, how woodlice recycle dead plants, and why spiders are brilliant at catching flies. It was a fantastic opportunity to link science learning with real-life experiences, and the children loved sharing their findings with friends.
One of the highlights was the teamwork on display. Everyone helped each other to gently handle the bugs and return them safely to their habitats.
This adventure wasn’t just about finding bugs, it was about curiosity, care for nature, and learning through exploration. Well done, Year 2, for being such brilliant bug detectives!
