Cheshire Fire 7’s Rugby Tournament 2026

Year 6 Rugby Success
Last week, we took a group of 17 children, comprised of Year 5 and Year 6 children, to the Rugby Fire 7s Tournament at Culcheth Eagles Rugby club. Against some very good schools, the children of Burtonwood represented the school brilliantly, working as a team and supporting one another. The 17 children were split into two teams. The first was largely made up of Year 5 children who compete at club level, and those with less experience of playing rugby. The effort, commitment and bravery that these children showed was exemplary, especially considering that they were playing against those older than them. A special mention should go to Penelope as the only female representing the school.
The second team was made up of Year 6 children, and in what may have been their last chance to represent Burtonwood in a competitive rugby tournament, they showed great skill and went unbeaten in the tournament. This meant that they won this area final and now go on to represent the school at the Cheshire Schools County quarter final, which will be held on Thursday 30th April. Congratulations to all the children who took part in this event. A special thank you needs to go to Lee Jones and Dan Parkinson, who as parents and rugby coaches, volunteered to support our children. Our participation would not have been possible without your help.
We are incredibly proud of the team and wish them the very best of luck in the next stage. Well done boys, you were brilliant!
