Year 4 English – Gorilla

Year 4 English – Gorilla
Year 4 have been developing their writing skills through the wonderful book 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne. As part of their learning, the children have been exploring the characters’ thoughts, feelings and emotions at different points throughout the story.
The children took part in a fun and engaging hot-seating activity, taking on the roles of the different characters. While one child was in the ‘hot seat’, the other children stood behind them and shared ideas about what they thought the character might be thinking or feeling at that particular moment in the story. They also considered what the scene might sound like, helping them to think carefully about the atmosphere and what was happening around the characters.
This activity encouraged the children to look closely at the illustrations and use clues from the story to develop their ideas. They practised using descriptive vocabulary and explaining their thoughts, which will help them when developing their own written work.
It was great to see Year 4 using their imagination and putting themselves in the characters’ shoes. They shared some thoughtful ideas and showed a great understanding of how characters’ thoughts and feelings can change throughout a story.
