World Book Day Celebrations
Famous book characters were brought to life at Burtonwood Community Primary School this week, when the children dressed up as part of World Book Day.
All classes got involved in the yearly national event which aims to promote reading and a love of books.
Among the costumes this year were well known classics such as Peter Rabbit as well as some newer favourites including Gangster Granny.
Pupils also visited the local library for a book reading as well as a chance to find out more about the service and borrow some books.
Headteacher Heather Muttock said: “It was fantastic to see all the children dressed as their favourite book characters. World Book Day is always great fun and a perfect opportunity to celebrate reading.”
World Book Day was created by UNESCO in 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.
The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading.
