Willow Wood Fun

Pupils at Burtonwood Community Primary School are now able to fully enjoy the recently refreshed outdoor learning area, Willow Wood, after it received a much-needed makeover during the summer holidays.

The area has become a hub of creativity and exploration, with pupils engaging in a variety of hands-on activities that incorporate the natural environment into their lessons. Den building, making bird feeders, and other outdoor projects have sparked enthusiasm among the children.

Key Stage 1 pupils have been busy creating personalised autumn wands using materials found in Willow Wood, while Year 4 made clay hedgehogs as part of their woodland studies. Tomorrow, Reception pupils are excited to make their very own autumn crowns, embracing the seasonal theme.

The outdoor activities have not only enhanced the children's learning but also provided a fresh, fun way to connect with nature.  The children love being outdoors, and it's been a fantastic opportunity for them to develop new skills while appreciating the natural environment.

The school’s commitment to outdoor learning aligns with its broader goals of promoting well-being, creativity, and environmental awareness among its pupils. With Willow Wood now in full use, the children are eager to continue their outdoor adventures throughout the school year.
