Year 5 DT- Creating Pop-up Books
Year 5 DT - Pupils Start Their Pop-Up Books Using Precision and Levers
In an exciting DT lesson, Year 5 pupils are embarking on the creation of their very own pop-up books. This hands-on project combines creativity with technical skill, providing pupils with a platform to explore the mechanics behind pop-up designs.
The first lesson focused on an essential component of their pop-up books: the lever mechanism. Pupils were introduced to the concept of levers and how they can be used to create movement within the pages of a book. By using split pins to construct these levers, they learned the fundamentals of simple mechanical systems and how these can bring static images to life.
A key highlight of the session was the emphasis on the High Performance Learning (HPL) value of precision. Pupils were encouraged to follow instructions to ensure that their levers functioned correctly and this focus on precision sharpened their technical skills.
As the pupils progress, they will continue to apply their knowledge of levers and other mechanisms to enhance their pop-up book designs.
We look forward to following each step of Year 5's journey as they bring their pop-up books to life. From designing to assembling, every stage will showcase their creativity and growing skills, making the final products all the more exciting to see.
Great start Year 5!
