VE Day Celebrations - 8th May 2025
Sunshine, Ice Cream and Remembrance: Our VE Day Celebration!
What a wonderful day we had celebrating VE Day on Thursday 8th May. The sun was shining, the smiles were wide, and the school was filled with laughter, learning, and lots of fun.
To begin the celebrations, our children came dressed in fantastic 1940s-inspired outfits, from evacuees to wartime uniforms. The playground was transformed with beautiful handmade bunting, proudly designed and painted by the children with help from the lovely volunteers at the Burtonwood Sewing Group.
The afternoon was packed with exciting traditional games, including coconut shy and quoit throwing. Children also enjoyed a relaxing picnic outside, and to top it all off, a special visit from the ice cream van had everyone lining up for a sweet treat!
We were also lucky to welcome some members of our local church, who came to sing wartime songs with the children. Their wonderful singing added a truly special atmosphere to the afternoon, and we would like to thank them warmly for sharing their time with us.
VE Day, which stands for Victory in Europe Day, marks the end of World War II in Europe on 8th May 1945. It is a time to remember and thank the brave people who fought for peace and freedom.
Our VE Day celebration was a brilliant way for children to learn about this important moment in history while enjoying a fun-filled day with friends.
A huge thank you to everyone who made it so special – especially the Burtonwood Sewing Group, our local church visitors, and all the staff who helped organise the day.
We will remember the meaning behind this day – and we’ll also remember how much fun we had celebrating it together!
