Year 5 Art - Creative Self-Portrait Project
Year 5 Art - Creative Self-Portrait Project
Year 5 have been busy exploring the exciting relationship between language and visual art in their latest lesson. They starting with sketching self-portraits using natural light from the windows and tracing paper to capture key facial features with care and precision.
They then went on to turn their sketches into word portraits—tracing over their original lines using words, names, and phrases that reflected their identity. This innovative approach allowed them to express who they are in a deeply personal and imaginative way.
The next step in the project will involve experimenting with a range of backgrounds to see which best enhances their expressive artwork.
Throughout the lesson, the pupils demonstrated the HPL value intellectual playfulness, taking familiar artistic ideas and reimagining them in meaningful, thought-provoking ways. Their blend of creativity, self-reflection, and artistic skill is already producing striking and inspiring results.
Well done Year 5!
