Year 6 – History

In their history lesson, Year 6 learned about the Blitz, which took place in Britain between September 1940 and May 1941. They studied original photographs from the time and worked together to make deductions about what life was like for ordinary people during the bombing raids. By looking closely at details such as ruined buildings, air raid shelters, gas masks, and even the expressions on people’s faces, they were able to imagine how families, children, and communities might have felt.

They discussed the difficulties people faced, such as losing their homes, rationing, and the fear of bombing raids, but they also noticed the strength and determination they showed. This helped them to understand not only the destruction caused by the bombs, but also the courage, resilience, and community spirit of the people who lived through the Blitz.

Learning about this important part of history has helped Year 6 appreciate how people can stay strong and work together, even in the most difficult times.
