Assembly News - 6th November
Protecting Gorillas and Inspiring Young Runners
Today, the children took part in an exciting and informative assembly with two main focuses: global conservation and health and wellbeing.
We are pleased to share that our school has adopted a gorilla through the WWF. Mrs Barber and our Eco Council played an important role in bringing this idea forward and helping make it happen. Gorillas are currently classed as endangered, with some species critically endangered due to habitat loss, hunting and disease. Their forest homes are being destroyed at an alarming rate, and only a limited number remain in the wild.
Through our adoption, we are helping protect these incredible animals by supporting conservation projects that monitor and safeguard gorilla populations, protect their habitats, and work with local communities to reduce threats. The children learned about the importance of conservation and how small actions can make a big difference to our planet.
The second part of our assembly introduced our new after-school running club, Couch to 2K. This fun programme is designed to help children build stamina, confidence and a love of being active.
The club will run for four weeks on Wednesdays beginning 12th November, and will lead to an optional opportunity to take part in the St Helens Park Run on Sunday 7th December. Children do not need to attend the club to take part in the Park Run, and those who join the club may choose whether or not to participate.
We hope many pupils will get involved, try something new, spend time with friends and enjoy keeping fit. We are excited to see the positive impact of both our contribution to gorilla conservation and our new fitness initiative.
