Year 2 Geography - Habitats
Year 2 – Exploring Habitats in Our School Grounds
As part of geography, Year 2 have been exploring the idea of why the world is wonderful. To help us investigate this question, the children went outside to study the different habitats around our school grounds.
Using hoops to mark out small areas, the children looked closely at everything inside their circle. This activity helped them carry out simple data collection, identifying the plants and animals living in each habitat. They were excited to discover tiny insects, different types of plants, and signs of how living things use each space.
We discussed what a habitat is and why certain animals choose particular places to live. The children learned that even small areas can support a surprising amount of life, and that each habitat has features that make it suitable for the plants and animals that live there.
This hands-on investigation helped Year 2 understand that the world is full of wonderful habitats, each supporting its own variety of living things.
