Reception Minibeast Art

Reception have been exploring watercolour paints to create some beautiful pictures of minibeasts. They carefully observed different insects and talked about their colours, patterns and features before beginning their paintings.

The children practised using the “dip, dab, paint, wash, wipe” technique to help them control the paintbrushes and keep their colours bright and clear. They learnt how to gently dip the brush into the water, dab away extra water, paint carefully, then wash and wipe the brush before changing colours.

We are very impressed with the children’s creativity, concentration and growing confidence when using watercolours. They showed great patience and care while painting ladybirds, butterflies, bees, caterpillars and other fascinating minibeasts.

This activity also helped to develop fine motor skills, brush control and colour mixing, as well as encouraging the children to talk about the natural world around them. The finished artwork has brightened up the classroom and we are very proud of everyone’s efforts.

Well done Reception!
