Year 5 - PHSE

As part of their PSHE Citizenship unit, Year 5 explored how the UK legal system works through an exciting and engaging mock trial lesson. The children enthusiastically took on a range of important roles, including prosecution and defence lawyers, witnesses, journalists and jury members.

Throughout the lesson, the children developed their speaking and listening skills by presenting evidence, questioning witnesses and discussing different viewpoints. They showed excellent teamwork, confidence and critical thinking as they worked together to decide on a fair outcome.

After carefully hearing all of the evidence and debating the case, the jury found Noah not guilty, believing he had been set up by one of the witnesses! The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and demonstrated a fantastic understanding of fairness, justice and the importance of considering evidence before making decisions.

It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and thoughtful discussion during the lesson, with many children fully immersing themselves in their roles and showing impressive persuasive speaking skills.

Well done Year 5!
