Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly at St Michael’s All Angels Church

An emotional and memorable morning was held at St Michael’s All Angels Church in Burtonwood as Year 6 celebrated the end of their primary school journey.

Parents, carers, and grandparents joined the children at the church, along with the Year 5 pupils who were invited to share in the special occasion and get a glimpse of what their own leavers’ celebration may look like next year. Reverend Joan warmly welcomed everyone for the celebration.

The assembly began with a performance from the Year 6 children, before pupils shared some of their favourite memories from their time at Burtonwood Primary School. Seeing how much they had grown and developed over the years made it a particularly special moment for everyone attending.

One of the most touching parts of the assembly came when some of the Year 6 pupils shared letters they had written to their four-year-old selves. In these thoughtful letters, the children offered advice, encouragement, and reassurance about their journey through school. Their words reflected the friendships they had made, the challenges they had overcome, and the many experiences that had helped shape them into the young people they are today.

The assembly also included the presentation of the Rotary Club Shield, celebrating this year’s Young Achiever. The award recognises a pupil who has demonstrated commitment, resilience, kindness, and a positive attitude throughout their time at Burtonwood Primary School. This year’s recipient was Evie L, who was delighted to receive the award in recognition of her achievements.

A special part of the celebration was hearing from Mrs Ignatius, Mrs Crowder, and Miss Linaker, who shared their memories of the Year 6 class. They spoke about the children’s personalities, the memorable moments they had shared together, and the progress the pupils had made throughout their time at Burtonwood. Their words highlighted the strong relationships built over the years and the many reasons why the class will be remembered.

Mr Heatley also spoke to the children during the celebration.  He reflected on their many accomplishments and encouraged them to embrace the opportunities ahead as they move on to high school.

The assembly also included a fun and memorable look back at the children’s younger years, with a selection of photographs shared by proud parents. The children’s reactions brought plenty of laughter and smiles, creating another wonderful memory for the leavers and their families.

Reverend Joan concluded the assembly with a thoughtful prayer, offering blessings and warm wishes to the children as they begin the next stage of their journey.

The staff and wider school community are proud of the Year 6 pupils and the achievements they have made during their time at Burtonwood Primary School. They leave with many happy memories behind them and exciting opportunities ahead. Good luck in high school!
