Year 6 History - Understanding the Causes of the First World War

Year 6 have been developing their historical understanding by investigating the causes and consequences of the events leading up to the First World War.

Working collaboratively, the children explored a range of key historical events, discussing not only what happened, but also how and why these events took place. They considered the important links between events and explored how one decision or event could contribute to another, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of cause and consequence.

The children then put their knowledge into practice by working together to create a timeline of the events leading up to the outbreak of war. They used their discussions and historical knowledge to carefully place events in chronological order, making connections between them along the way.

It was fantastic to see the children sharing ideas, challenging each other’s thinking and explaining their reasoning. Their collaborative approach allowed them to learn from one another while building a clearer picture of the complex chain of events that ultimately led to the First World War.
