Year 5 pupils at Burtonwood Community Primary School recently participated in the Bikeability program, a cycle training initiative that impacts essential life skills. Instructors visited the school to deliver the program, which is designed to go beyond just teaching children how to cycle.

This week’s ACP of "Realising - Automatically" was clearly demonstrated. As the students' confidence grew, their bike handling became more automatic. This allowed them to focus more on the roads and traffic rather than on the mechanics of riding their bikes.

Bikeability equips children with a range of valuable skills. Through the program, pupils not only learn to ride a bike but also develop independence, social skills, and a sense of well-being. The training enhances their ability to respond to risk and significantly boosts their confidence. This newfound confidence often translates into more children cycling to school, which has been linked to improved mental health and overall well-being.

Overall, the Bikeability program has proven to be a valuable addition to the curriculum, providing students with skills and experiences that benefit their physical health, mental well-being, and academic success.

Well done Year 5!
