Year 2 DT - Properties of a Chair

In Design and Technology this week, Year 2 have started the planning for their new project - designing a chair for Baby Bear. Before beginning their own creations, the children spent time investigating a range of different chairs to help them understand what makes a chair suitable, comfortable and strong.

Working in the hall, they explored many types of seating, including hard chairs, soft chairs, beanbags and swivel chairs. The children looked closely at the materials used, the shapes of the legs and backs, and how each chair felt to sit on. They discussed words such as sturdy, comfortable, wobbly and supportive to describe what they noticed.

This investigation is helping Year 2 think carefully about what Baby Bear might need in a chair and which features are most important. Their research will support them as they move on to the next stage of planning and designing their own ideas.

Well done Year 2!
