Year 2 Maths - Adding Two 2-Digit Numbers

This week in Maths, Year 2 have been learning how to add two 2-digit numbers using base 10 equipment. The children worked in pairs to practise building numbers with tens and ones, then combined their pieces to find the total.

Using the base 10 resources helped the children clearly see how numbers are made and how they can be added together. They talked through their ideas with their partners, worked carefully to solve each calculation and supported each other when the numbers became a little trickier.

The children really enjoyed this practical approach to addition. It helped them develop their understanding of place value and gave them the confidence to explain their mathematical thinking.

Year 2 have made fantastic progress and are becoming much more secure when working with larger numbers.
