Reception - Celebrating Diwali

Reception have been learning about Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, through reading stories and watching short video clips. The children have been finding out about some of the traditions associated with the celebration and learning why light is such an important symbol during Diwali.

As part of their learning, the children enjoyed creating their own diya lights. They carefully moulded playdough to make a holder for their candle before decorating it with colourful sequins, beads and buttons. The children loved choosing their decorations and creating their own unique designs.

This activity provided a great opportunity for the children to explore different materials, develop their fine motor skills and express their creativity while learning about another culture and its traditions.
